A few pictures of people that I have been privileged to know. May your god bless you.
On the left my farther W.Armstrong in 1964 at Wheatley hill (Beart Norton) and on the right Ray Duckworth, (1996?) a fine friend sadly missed.
In the middle, my father, myself and a young lady called Jean, Scotalnd about 1964 with a Beart Norton.
Above left, Dick Fillery, Olympic Rapid fire shooter with Paul Leatherdale, free pistol and air pistol shooter. In the middle Les Cotteral GB pistol Coach. On the right, some of the squad. Left to right, Ray Duckworth, just popping his head up, Carol Page, Mick Gault. Paul Leatherdale, Les Cotteral, Tom Armstrong, Margaret Thomas and Brieny. In Italy Bolognia 1991.
Mainly due to Dicks great pistol ability we managed to win a silver medal at the Commonwealth games pairs event in India in 1995(below left). We also had a look at the Taj Mahal while we were there.(below middle)
I remember Paul Leatherdale and I (Tom Armtrong) won a standard pistol event / medal against the USA in about 1990 (above right). Les Cotteral was my coach for many years until his untimely departure, he was one of the best, a great loss to the sport and myself. All of these people were and are truly great individuals.

I Tthink it is worth mentioning that Carol, or Carol Ann Bartlett Page, is one posh lady (A member of the Peerage of Great Britain no less and an Olympian). Just have a look at the pedigree below. What chance did a poor Gordie stand in this company?

Jean Robson. I was very privelaged to know Jean and her family, from Wheatley Hill, in the early 1960`s.
I can not speak highly enough of Jean Robson, she was a perfect lady and her dad Jack Robson the perfect gentleman.
Above left This is the only picture I have of Jack Robson. Above right Gowland Terrace, Wheatley Hill. Jack and Jeans home, on the left behind the bus. Just on the right you can see the pit baths. Quite a coincidence that my Grandfather, on my mothers side, William Howe, was killed by a bus crossing from the baths, to the bus stop. On the far right is an example of Jeans published journalistic work.
Below just for your interest, is shown the Medal and pocket watch that belonged to my Grandfarther Mr W. Howe. I will pass it on in the family. Probably to young Lucas, my grandson.
This is me Tom Armstrong same period and time frame, 1963/64, so I guess I should be in there with the rest of the gang.
Also Ann Walker and Ray Symons, shown below.
Ann`s boyfriend at the time Samuel Ray Symons, is shown below in the middle on a Manx Norton. Note you can just see the "ring" on his back, he was a founder member of the Rings, a motorcycle fraternity. Other members were Teddy Warnes, Marion Todd, Tom Armstrong and Billy Middleton.
Also in the middle picture, just above Ray, the beautiful, Marion Todd was a prominent and important member of the inner circle at the time, that is Marion on the left in 1959. The picture on the right shows David Scott at Scarbrough in 1959, an old friend, even though he was a member of the "snakes", contact lost. All in all very simila to Grease. In fact every time I see a repeat on TV I remember those old days. I wonder if you remember.
Left. The lovely Marion Todd, summer 1959, biker jacket and all. Note the lapel skull and crossbones, no doubt with the circle on the back of the jacket.
On the right the beauty still remains in later life very gina-lola Marion.
Marion with here friend, singer Mick Hucknall. Wow she looks good blonde.
And another one of the lovely Marion, what a beauty she is
A motely crew. Taken at an old aerodrome Thornaby while testing bikes in about 1959. Left to right. Edward (Teddy ) Warnes, Ray Symons, Ann Walker and Marion Todd, I can not remember the name of the next girl, Valerie Godden, Matty Convery and his younger brother.
Val went on to marry Ted(nicknamed the professor). Now in Wales and Ann married Ray (nicknamed Sam). Living at Peterlee. The girl who`s name I can not remember might have gone on to wed Matty. Ted looks a bit worn out as he had been having a wrestling match with Ray and Tom Armstrong. The picture on the right shows Ray and Anne at the church. I am just visible in the doorway behind everyone.
This is a poor picture of a great man. Tommy Nicholson. A man that taught me a lot, about a lot. Great friend, much missed.
Tom lived at Johnston Estate, Wheatley Hill in the 60`s. He was a Blacksmith at Wheatley Hill pit. I met him and worked with him for a number of years, when he was transferred to Thornley. This man was afraid of nothing, stood tall and said it like it is. A good code to live by.
