" TIGER RED "
HISTORY OF "TIGER RED"
I purchased "Tiger red" in either 1959 or 1960, I just can not remember the exact date. It was about the time that I bought my first Norton and that was new in 1959. I got the guitar off a work mate "Millie". Millie if your out there get in touch. He got the guitar off "Sinbad"
He was draft dodging and joined the NCB to avoid conscription as far as I can remember.
Anyway he had brought the Les Paul back from the USA, how or where he got it I have no idea. I know I paid £5.00 for it from "Millie". Well at least I thought I had, but when I met up with him again in 1996 at a funeral and I mentioned the guitar, he said that I had not made the last payment and still owed him 10 bob. 50p to you and me. I remember paying for it at 10 bob a week. I only had the guitar for about 6 month when I sold it to "Rocky". Rocky you know who you are, if your reading this contact me. He paid £5.00 for it for his sons Christmas present. In those days no one knew that this kind of instrument was going to realize cult status. Millie told me late that he paid Sinbad £26.00 for it. To cut a long story short after I had finished racing the motor bikes, and shooting pistols for GB. I went back to my roots and started playing guitar again. In 1996 I met up with some of the old work mates and asked about my old guitar. I asked Millie to see if he could find out if Rocky still had it and he had. You can imagine my surprise when he gave it back to me. Mind you it was in the worst possible state, totally unplayable, having been in a leaky attic for almost 35 years. I sent it down south to a well know guitar expert, "Poole" was his name and he has restored the guitar to it`s present state using only the original parts. Great job, thanks Ray. the guitar will never leave me again. I can not describe how well it plays and sounds.
I knew nothing about guitars until now, having played every instrument under the sun, I can tell you that this one is way above all others. I believe it to be the best guitar on the planet.
