1961 600CC NORTON THAT I REFURBISHED AND RODE FOR SOME TIME.
THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST BIKES I EVER OWNED A 1959 88 NORTON DOMINATOR. PICTURE TAKEN BE ERIC HENDERSON AT EAST VEIW WHEATLEY HILL CO DURHAM IN 1959.
I (Tom Armstrong) remember racing this bike at a place called Charter Hall in Scotland.A very old air field from WW11 I think. Very bumpy staright, and slippery. The bike was very easy to bump start and was first away from the line, but just did not have the legs or brakes of a Manx or G50, eventually a coil lead came off and I had to retire it. I sold it to a local lad from Wheatley hill, John Wilson. His dad was the barber at Thornley. John was an electrician at the Thornley pit. The bike had a Manx tank, seat and front number plate. I spent hours working on the inlet ports and it was a fast road machine with Ariel arrow pipes, hand made oil / battery tank and twin carbs. I packed up the valve springs to stop float. Note it only had steel rims and a single leading shoe front brake.
